The lifestyle television show aired a half-hour Scenic Rim special ahead of Eat Local Week.

Host Sofie Formica and presenters Jillian Whiting, Laurel Edwards and Alastair McLeod visited many Scenic Rim wineries, farms and cafes to showcase the incredible array of food and drinks which are produced here.

The countdown to Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is on!

The feasting begins on June 30, however there are some delicious entrée events before then if you’re hungry for a local food and farm experience.

The sheep at Tommerup’s Farm are just some of the gorgeous animals you can meet at Eat Local Week.

Eat Local Week is an initiative of the Scenic Rim Regional Council, designed to showcase the smorgasbord of produce which grows in the region, and highlight the talented producers, farmers and makers.

Now in its 8th year, Eat Local Week 2018 features more than 90 events across the region, from farm tours to gourmet dinners and the signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday July 7.

Mayor Greg Christensen says Eat Local Week is an easy and delicious way for locals to discover and taste the food and drinks which are growing in their backyard.

“I encourage Scenic Rim residents to jump in the car and take a tour of the region’s farms, cafes, restaurants, pubs, breweries and wineries and enjoy the incredible Eat Local Week program of events,” he says.

“Each year I wonder how we will top the last but I can honestly say this year’s program is the biggest and best yet. It features more than 90 events, including 12 entrée events to whet the appetite, 20 lunch and dinner events, more than 20 farm events and 36 events which cost less than $25 or are free.

“This isn’t just an event for people who know their food and wine, this is an event for families who are keen to give their children a food and farm experience; an event for interested locals; it’s really an event for anyone who enjoys to eat and drink!”

Jamming with the Lambs @ Towri Sheep Cheeses by Cameron Matthews – June 9
Multiple course meal under the stars at Towri Sheep Cheeses. Live jazz music, bespoke cheese and food by Cameron Matthews.

Green Lane Coffee Plantation Producers’ Dinner – June 22
Join EAT LOCAL Book authors Brenda Fawdon and Christine Sharp for an evening of food, wine, conversation and coffee.

You’ll be in olive heaven at Rathlogan Grove Olives.

The lost world- secluded, romantic and wild. It’s our  favourite scenic rim (secret, shh) and it is still a pretty big secret. We love having to get out to open the farmers’ gates, driving slowly through the cattle, then to round the bend and Mt Razorback greets you. Every occasion we have visited, we were always alone and you can’t leave without taking a dip in the Albert river. Don’t forget the picnic blanket, wine and cheeses.

Family Escape Winner – Julia Bates Gussoni’s favourite ‘secret’ adventure

My Scenic Rim ‘secret’ is probably one of the better-known destinations, Lower Portals at Mount Barney. It’s the perfect family adventure — a bit of dirt road excitement to reach the carpark, plenty of exercise and wildlife-watching on the hike and, finally, beautiful, clear pools to cool down in before the return journey commences. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch and see if you can spot the friendly eel who calls the pools home. I guarantee you won’t hear a peep from the kids on the drive home!

Outdoor Adventure Escape Winner – Tyson Burns favourite ‘secret’ adventure

The lower waterfall at Mt Greville. Two weeks ago I took two of my kids to Mt Greville, this was in between the bouts of rain. The creeks were flowing fast, air fresh. Everyone was getting stir CRAZY from being stuck inside…so off we went. We headed up the track toward waterfall gorge, just before you take the turn to the gorge veer right head down the slope to the bottom of the 15m high waterfall. The spray from the waterfall wisps through the rainforest gully with crystal clear water. Awesome!

Tyson won Rock climbing activity for up to 10 people at Mt Barney Lodge including morning tea and guiding by expert leaders.

Nigella Lawson has discovered the native finger lime, which grows in abundance in the Scenic Rim.

The domestic goddess recently tweeted her 2.6-million followers that she was just back from Down Under.

“And I have to report that finger limes are the future. The caviar of the citrus world.”

 

The Scenic Rim is home to The Lime Caviar Company, a spectacular farm just outside Rathdowney, where Ian and Margie Douglas produce the native citrus and send to customers around the world.

The countdown is on to Scenic Rim Eat Local Week and if you’re hungry for a taster check out some of these unique pre-events.

The official Eat Local Week launch is being held on May 9 at Moda Events in Brisbane.

Limited tickets remain for the Feast in the Field lunch at Tommerup’s Dairy Farm on May 21, where guests will feast on a shared menu created by Brenda Fawdon from her EAT LOCAL cookbook.

Tickets are also available for Moda on the Mountain at the Lime Caviar Fingerlime Farm on May 28 and Lunch with the Lambs at Towri Sheep Cheesery and farm on June 23.

Bookings are now open for Scenic Rim Gourmet Short Stay, a walking holiday focused on food.

This delicious tour runs from June 25 to 29 and will connect you with the Scenic Rim’s tastes, sights and producers.

It’s being organised and led by the team at InterNATIONAL Park Tours and features accommodation on Tamborine Mountain and in Boonah, visits to wineries, farm gates and paddock to plate food trails.

Bookings are now open for the popular Lost World Farmgate Festival and the Kalfresh Carrot Day, both being held on June 24.

Scenic Rim Eat Local Week plates up from June 24 and continues right through the first week of the Queensland school holidays.

It culminates in the signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival at Aratula on Saturday July 2.

Eat Local Week features more than 90 individual events, including farm tours, producer lunches, cooking classes, cheese making workshops and gourmet dinners.
