So, you’re after an itinerary that’s guaranteed to entertain the kids? Tick. And one that’ll have the parents even more excited? Now you’re thinking Tamborine Mountain.

This weekend, it’s time to forget the local park and tiresome routines; instead seek adventure that the whole family will love – all one hour from Brisbane.

Offering the perfect blend of physical activity, nature and superb local food, the Tamborine Mountain really does have it all for making wholesome family memories.

Here’s how to spend the perfect day out with the tribe within the Scenic Rim.

Activity 1: Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk

Up and at ‘em fam! Start the day with a one-and-a-half-kilometre rainforest walking experience above mystical rainforest canopies on the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk.

Set on 30 acres of privately owned rainforest beside the crystal-clear rock pools of Cedar Creek, the walk takes about 45 minutes and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The flat platform and high side rails will keep the kids safely contained, so you can take in the natural beauty and fresh tropical air.

The elevated walkways will take you past rock pools and a butterfly lookout point before reaching the Cantilever – a 40-meter-long pathway that towers 30 meters above the treetops with views to the brook and rainforest canopies below.

Spot a green tree frog, listen to the native bird song and learn about the local wildlife with the informative displays dotted along the walk.

If the kids are craving another walking adventure, place these family-friendly walks on your next Scenic Rim itinerary.

Breakfast: Franquette Bakery

With a name like Franquette, which translates to “without any fuss” from French, you could assume that this French bakery is equal parts laid back as it is sophisticated.

And you’d be right. Franquette delivers authentic, unpretentious and absolutely delicious morsels from sweet to savoury and everything in between.

We can guarantee everyone in your crew will be drooling at the sight of their display cabinets overflowing with freshly baked croissants, pastries, filling-packed sandwiches, baguettes and all types of loaves.

Take breakfast to go or dine-in on their cute deck space with outdoor seating, plus a green area for kids to hang. Take breakfast to go or dine in on their cute deck space with outdoor seating, plus a green area for kids to hang out.

Activity 2: Thunderbird Park

Next stop; an all-ages theme park with a rainforest backdrop that doubles as one of the hinterland’s favourite destinations for family fun and activities.

Take your pick from the multitude of attractions and challenges at Thunderbird Park that’ll get the heart pumping and drum up some friendly family competition.

For the littlest adventurers, there’s the Dig It construction zone where you can scoop, demolish and spin around in a real-life digger. There’s also Thunderegg Crystal Mining where kids can put pickaxe to soil in search of illusive thunder egg rocks housing crystal chambers or the Treetop Challenge, a high ropes obstacle course that’ll have the kids zipping through the trees on flying foxes, scooting across shaking wooden bridges and embracing their inner daredevil.

For older kids (and mum and dad), the Canyon Flyer Guided Zipline Tour or Treetop Challenge is sure to get the adrenaline racing as you soar through the treetops and take in birds eye views of the lush rainforest below.

Lunch: Picnic Real Food Bar

You’ve been working up an appetite all morning, so reward yourself with a delicious dish and some downtime at Picnic Real Food Bar.

Showcasing locally-grown seasonal produce, their homemade pies, burgers, meals, salads and beautifully decorated cakes are a celebration of the mountain growers and makers.

The casual vibe, great food and Australian natural wine or craft beers (for mum and dad) will be the perfect accompaniment to belly laughs and chats about the adventures shared that morning.

The flavours of the Scenic Rim aren’t reserved for Picnic’s mouthwatering meals, see places to purchase fresh produce for your own kitchen.

Activity 3: Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves

Open the kids’ eyes and minds with a magical, other worldly experience; the Tamborine Glow Worm Caves.

You’ll be guided through a purpose-built cave filled with thousands of luminescent glow worms that light up the darkness, creating a starry sky effect all around.

Chat with the tour guide, learn about the lifecycle and conservation of the worms and let the whole family take in the feeling of wonder of these tiny creatures.

Activity 4: Cauldron Distillery

Just over the road, Cauldron Distillery is the perfect place to round out the day’s activities.

Take in some live tunes, roll out the picnic rug on the grass and enjoy a crisp gin cocktail from the bar while the kids run around, socialise and play lawn games.

Or why not get a behind-the-scenes look at a working stillhouse on a 25 minute distillery tour – kids are welcome to attend free of charge.

Cauldron Distilleries’ award-winning drops are one of many reasons this place is famous with families, and you’ll see why as the sun sets on your memory-making day out.
