Visit the Scenic Rim this January long weekend
Did someone say long weekend?
Just when you thought the summer holidays were over you hear there’s still the January long weekend to go!
Spend your Australia Day long weekend exploring the Scenic Rim.
Here are some local ideas:
Discover a welcoming spirit and good old country hospitality like no other. Get back to the bush with a weekend at one of the Scenic Rim’s many local camping and glamping spots. And check out the region’s wide range of accommodation including bed and breakfasts, cottages, retreats and lodges, cottages and farm stays!
Learn how macadamia nuts are grown and processed! Wander the orchard, explore the processing sheds and taste the product on a Greenlee Macadamia Farm tour!
Get a gorgeous homestead picnic basket or BBQ basket for two, with your choice of O’Reilly’s wine or craft beers, and set up beside Canungra Creak at O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards. Alternatively, dine in style at the Vintage Restaurant. Live music from noon to 3pm both Saturday and Sunday. Stay the weekend! Book directly with O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat to make the most of their Australia Day weekend specials!
Eat local on Tamborine Mountain
The rich, red alluvial soil sustains a bounty of glorious fresh food on the mountain. Stock up at a roadside stall; or visit the Green Shed Markets on Sunday morning for a selection of just-picked organic produce. Check out the Tamborine Mountain State School Markets while you’re there, too!
Pull up a picnic blanket beside Lake Wyaralong and take in all the action of the Queensland State Championship Regatta. Spectator entry is free, and food and drinks will be available for purchase from our very own locals, Ants Fruit Market!
Enjoy the Scenic Rim’s three lakes
BYO kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddle board, or hire one from a local operator at Lake Moogerah, Lake Maroon and Lake Wyaralong. There’s some fantastic fishing to be had in the region, too. Drop a line from your boat or try your luck from the shore. Read more: fishing and water sports.
