Take your pet on holiday at these Scenic Rim cottages, farms and campgrounds
Family holidays are the best, but what if your family includes a furry four-legged friend?
Holiday time often means expensive kennel fees and a sad separation from your dogs, cats and horses. But not anymore!
In the Scenic Rim there are plenty of pet-friendly accommodation options to keep every member of the family happy.
Pack the ball, the lead and pet food and check out these pet-friendly destinations. And if you have horses, don’t worry – there’s even a few places where they’re welcome too.
But remember your pets aren’t allowed in the Scenic Rim’s national parks.
Choose from these camping grounds, cottages, farm houses and Creekside parks.
- Stay at Kirro
Have horse, will travel. Stay at Kirro is a lovely, renovated Queenslander homestead (sleeps 8), set on a 1011ha working cattle property. The house-yard is fenced, which means your fur-babies are welcome. There are horse facilities available too and the owners will tell you about the gorgeous trails available around the property.
- Andrew Drynan Park
This is a popular Scenic Rim park for people seeking serenity and an escape from crowds. Dogs are allowed (on lead). The park is located close to the NSW border, in the Scenic Rim’s southern corner. Facilities for smaller caravans, camping trailers and tents, with creek access and flushing toilets.
- Burgess Park
Burgess Park is another fabulous Scenic Rim Park, situated on Christmas Creek in the Lost World. Dogs are allowed. BYO drinking water. The park is about 20km from Beaudesert.
- Sharp Park Riverbend Country Bush Camping
James Sharp Memorial Park is a family bush camping ground situated 5km from Canungra. It’s an ideal base for swimming, fishing and relaxing and accessing nearby walks and shopping. Pets are welcome, ask when you book.
- Spring Gully Stays
Low-key relaxation is on tap at this camping ground, located near Canungra. Use the shared kitchen and barbecues, cool down in the swimming hole and if you like life’s comforts book into an on-site safari tent. Ask about bringing your pet when you book.
- Wagon Wheels Holiday Villas Canungra
Unwind in these new holiday villas, located in the heart of Canungra Village. Cafes and shopping is just a short walk away. Facilities for families with children and furry friends.
- Witheren Heights Bush Camping Retreat
Stay on this 140-acre working farm and explore the 4WD and walking tracks. The town of Canungra is just seven minute’s drive away for shopping and meals. Restrained dogs are allowed when you stay here.
- Darlington Park
Darlington Park is one of the Scenic Rim’s most popular places to escape the crowds and have a back-to-nature family holiday. Bookings are recommended during holidays. BYO drinking water. Some animals are allowed, check with the managers ahead of booking.
- Wongari Eco Retreat
Stay in one of these private, secluded wilderness cabins and explore the Scenic Rim’s Lost World. Do as little or as much as you want. Splash in the creeks, read books by the fire, go for walks. The cabins and property are pet-friendly.
- Worendo Bed & Breakfast Cottages
You won’t want to leave Worendo Cottages. Choose from one of three cottages onsite at this stunning property that’s overlooked by the dramatic mountains of the Lamington National park. Some house yards are fenced and are suitable for pets, ask when you book. Book ahead for the super-popular Wild Lime Cooking School, also located onsite.
- Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages
Beds & Reds. Now that sounds like a great holiday. Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages are the perfect place to try the local wines, relax and enjoy time as a family. All four cottages here are dog-friendly so you can explore the local countryside with your furry friend.
- Bigriggen Park
This popular park is situated on river flats, close to Mt Barney National Park and offers visitors a choice of bunkhouse accommodation, as well as campsites, caravan, motorhome and camper trailer sites. On-site facilities include a self-catering kitchen. Pets are welcomed by application and there’s plenty to do, including canoeing, swimming, bushwalking, bird watching and relaxing.
- Flanagan Reserve
Flanagan Reserve is situated close to the Mt Barney National Park, about 45km outside Beaudesert. A great base to access Mt Maroon, Mt Barney and Mt Lindesay. Set on the Logan River, it’s a natural playground for every member of the family. Go for walks, swim in the river and relax by the fire.
- Scenic Rim Adventure Park
Wilderness awaits at this 680-acre property, located at Tamrookum Creek. The park features children’s play areas, mountain bike tracks, remote control tracks, spider walls, a maze, walking trails and plenty of wildlife. The park features 14 different camping areas and there are hot showers available onsite. Pets are welcome but must be attached to runners.
- Tallowood Farm & Dog Holidays
Located at Carneys Creek, via Boonah, this one-bedroom self-contained cottage is the perfect place to escape the crowds and relax. Go for long walks, read books and unwind with your dog by your side.
- Boonah Show Society Caravan Park
Stay close to Boonah at this popular showground caravan park. On-site facilities include a kitchen and shower block and your fur-baby is welcome. Walk into the busy town centre for shops, food and coffee. Great views of the surrounding mountains.
- Hanoob Views Carneys Creek
Everyone will love this two-bedroom, self-contained cottage at Carneys Creek. The house yard is fenced and dogs are welcome because as the website says, ‘Even dogs got to paws for a while.’ As well as panoramic views, there’s a wood fired pizza oven on site, a dam and everything you’ll need for a relaxing escape.
- Hilly Ridge
Hilly Ridge is a beautifully-renovated Queenslander located up high on Green Hills Road, outside Boonah. Dogs are allowed by prior arrangement and there are plenty of fabulous walks nearby.
- Yarramalong Outdoor Recreation Centre
You won’t want to go home once you arrive to Yarramalong. This 160-acre property close to Lake Moogerah, offers cabin accommodation and plenty of space to pitch your tent or park your camper trailer. Go paddling, swimming and fishing. Meet the local wildlife and explore the bush trails. The on-site commercial kitchen can be hired. Ask about bringing your pet when you book.
- ADogma’s Dog & Cat Cottage Tamborine Mountain
Like the name says this restored 1930s Queenslander is open to both dogs and cats and features strong fencing and pet-proof security doors. On your doorstep you’ll find rainforest walks, national parks and the busy township of Tamborine Mountain. Great shopping, wine and food is on tap.
- Hillside A Country Retreat
Dogs are welcome, announcement that takes pride of place on the Hillside website. The owners write that they understand the bond between dogs and their human owners and that’s why Gumnut Cottage is equipped to house small and medium dogs.
- Lynden Farm
‘Well-behaved’ dogs are allowed to stay at the beautiful Lynden organic Farm on Tamborine Mountain. Seek permission when you book in to this five-acre farm retreat. There’s accommodation on site for eight guests and the property is located close to Cedar Creek Estate Winery and Tamborine village.
- Skyhouse Mount Lodge
This home more than lives up to its name, perched up high on Tamborine Mountain. The architect-designed home is perched on the north-east edge of Tamborine Mountain and enjoys expansive coastal views. The home sleeps six guests, plus your pets. There’s a good-sized dog park nearby at North Tamborine.
- Tamborine Mountain Caravan and Camping
This campground is situated within the grounds of Thunderbird Park on Cedar Creek Falls Rd and guests can enjoy plenty of activities onsite, including horse-riding, the Tree Top Challenge, Laser Skirmish and Thunder egg mining. Pets are allowed on both the powered and unpowered sites, but not in the safari tent accommodation.
- Lake Maroon Holiday Park
This popular lakeside park offers visitors a number of accommodation options, from camping to self-contained houses. Pets are allowed in some parts of the park, enquire when you book. Go boating and fishing on the lake, or take a drive into the towns of Boonah, Kalbar and Aratula. All members of the family will enjoy the bushwalking that’s on the doorstep.
- Coleyville Lodge
This self-contained homestead and cottage is situated on a 330acre property and is both horse and dog friendly. The property is located close to Ipswich, Willowbank and Boonah. The working cattle property will keep you busy, explore the creeks, olive grove and local wineries.
- Moogerah Lake Houses
Pets are allowed at these two lake-front homes. Soak up the water views from the verandah of the self-contained homes. Each home sleeps up to nine people. Great shopping and walking is close by.
- Misty Morn Cottage
Dogs are allowed at this stunning Carney’s Creek cottage, but not on the furniture! The cottage is cosy but the mountain views are expansive. Explore on foot, or relax on the verandah and read books.
- The Gatekeeper’s Cottage Dugandan
BYO horses and utilise the arena and round yard located on site. Access some great trails and explore the area on horseback. Well located for the Dugandan Pub and Kooroomba Winery. The owners run Droughtmaster cattle on the property.
