The Scenic Rim Way

Aratula to Gold Coast
Distance: 144 km, Drive time: 1 hr 40 min

The Scenic Rim Way crosses the Scenic Rim from east to west connecting Aratula on the Cunningham Highway to Route 90 through to the Gold Coast and Pacific Highway. There are numerous routes, trails and loops that will take you to quaint country towns, magnificent scenic lookouts, wineries, arts and craft boutiques, lakes and national parks. You will soon discover why it is called the Scenic Rim!

This leisurely drive can be done in less than two hours, but slow down and enjoy everything the Scenic Rim has to offer. Starting in Aratula, you will find the best chocolate éclairs for miles.  You will have just enough time to finish two eclairs before arriving in Boonah, a buzzing country town with a main street full of local produce and artwork.  A 30 minute drive will take you into Beaudesert, the heart of the Scenic Rim.  Meebun Recreation Area is a popular picnic spot along the way. Facilities include picnic tables, shelters, and barbeques. Or relax beside the lake and sip a vino at The Overflow Estate 1895. If you are looking for something more active, it is a great starting point for paddling and mountain biking around Lake Wyaralong.

Your next stop is Canungra, a pretty village which is the gateway to Lamington National Park and O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, Villas and Lost World Spa. After spending time in Canungra, drive up Tamborine Mountain where you will find a beautiful compilation of communities which have grown over time.
