The Scenic Rim is a haven for creative folk producing unique treasures, fashion and furniture for any stylish coastal, city or acreage home. Best of all, you can forget paid parking and standing in lengthy queues in this neck of the woods while you enjoy shopping in a relaxed rural atmosphere packed with country driving and local produce stalls galore.
Canungra interior designer, Nikki Hobbs, shares some of her favourite Scenic Rim places for sourcing unique homewares, antiques and art.
Modern Country Style
Brimming in navy blue and white, iconic homewares and fashion boutique My Country Escape, in Canungra, is a one-stop-shop for homewares, fresh country blooms and linen for every occasion. Pop out back to Michelle’s studio lined in colourful Mezzie and Frank chalk paint, popular with furniture workshops and floral arranging classes.
Meander down the cobble driveway and into an oasis of sweet smelling specialty roses, magnolias and fruit trees galore at BirchGrove Nursery and Café on Tamborine Mountain. Stocked to the brim with antique trinkets and local handmade jams including a favourite, Rosewater. Enjoy traditional scones and tea inside on the upholstered lounges with the warmth of the cozy open fireplace on a winter’s day.
Set in a charming timber 1940’s barn on the popular Gallery Walk at Eagle Heights, Mountain House is a local haven of carefully selected global designers and artisans including owner Sam’s very own brand – Fin & Ivy. Search the charming décor styled weekly including earthy ceramics, leather goods and rattan bags just to name a few. Each piece is guaranteed to add old world charm to your interior.
Not just a coffee shop, Green Lane Coffee Plantation grows and roasts their very own brand of coffee onsite at Tamborine Mountain. Their passion for every aspect of coffee is contagious complemented with a tasty menu, kitchen goodies and fresh flowers selling for a bargain. Enjoy the newly renovated outdoor lawn or tour the plantation during a community picking day.
Upcycle in White
Enter Sandy’s white oasis of painted furniture, blue hydrangeas and cane accents at Paint Me White. With a talent for up-cycling period furniture in Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint, Sandy’s custom pieces add character to any interior. Hands-on workshops are held regularly to teach the technique of transforming your own pieces. Sandy regularly visits the Scenic Rim and you will often find her at The Vintage Brocante held in June and November at Canungra.
Set to rival Myer boxing day sales, The Vintage Brocante is a popular twice-yearly country style marketplace, showcasing high quality bespoke and unique wares for the home and garden. Think French Provincial, English country, rustic farmhouse, and up-cycled collectables now hosted at picturesque O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards.
While you’re in the Scenic Rim stop at a local produce store and call into these gorgeous homewares stores:
Duck Junction Boonah
This delightful store is situated on Boonah’s High Street and features a beautiful selection of homewares, drapery, giftware and collectibles. Stop by Duck Junction regularly to see the new stock which arrives weekly.
Elegance and Grace Kalbar
Sarah Bottle and Jade Cook are behind this new addition to Kalbar. Sarah of Elegance and Grace stocks a range of locally-crafted leather handbags, local hats, giftware and homewares. Jade, through her business Empowered Soul Oils, specialises in aromatherapy and offers essential oil massages and other beauty treatments.
BMK Collective Kalbar
A surprising find in Kalbar. BMK Collective is a haven for homewares, collectibles, decorator items and soft furnishings. Whatever your decorating style, you’ll probably find it here.
