“Forest & Feathers” Exhibition by Carol Forster & Peter Hughes

 “Forest and Feathers” a new exhibition by Carol Forster and Peter Hughes at Under the Greenwood Tree captures our precious environment in porcelain and paint.

Carol is a keen bushwalker, so it is no surprise that inspiration for this body of work comes from her many walks in the forests, botanic gardens and rainforests of Australia. Excited by the symphony of birdsong, the vibrant hues of fungi, and the intricate forms of flora and fauna, Carol translates her experiences into porcelain sculptures and ceramic vessels. Using a wide range of techniques, including relief printmaking, hand building, wheel throwing and moulding, Carol creates rich surface textures, evocative patterns, and sculptural impressions that reflect the beauty and complexity of the forests she loves.  By depicting endangered birds & butterflies, Carol hopes to remind the viewer to look at these pieces and see the need to preserve our natural world for future generations to explore and enjoy.

Peter Hughes is a Brisbane based, self -taught painter and ceramicist who has worked at Monte Lupo Arts for 25 years and is an integral part of the studio.

In recent years Peter has been particularly recognized for his painting. In 2024 he was a finalist in the prestigious Gordon Darling Portrait prize at the Australian Portrait Gallery, Canberra.  Peter has also been the recipient of the Arts Access Australia Prize and his work has been acquired by the London Museum as part of an exhibition of self-taught artists. Paintings by Peter Hughes have been exhibited in New York, Washington DC, the JFK Centre for Arts and The Brisbane Powerhouse amongst others.

Peter uses painting to communicate his experiences and feelings. While speaking can be a challenge, Peter enjoys communication through his art and enjoys the community and social opportunities that making art has created for him.

Forest and Feathers will be on exhibition at Under the Greenwood Tree from July 19th to August 12th .  Meet the artists at the exhibition opening on Saturday 19th July at 2.30pm
