Focus on Regional Food during Eat Local Week

Scenic Rim residents can meet the people who grow their fresh food and discover the vast array of food and wine that is produced in the region during Eat Local Week.

Follow the journey from paddock to plate during Eat Local Week, which run from Sunday June 24 to Sunday July 1, and will celebrate all aspects of the Scenic Rim food industry. The focus of Eat Local Week will be on local farms, food producers, restaurants and the organisations and people who play a part in making locally-grown food more accessible in the region.

The week features a number of events, tastings, produce tours and workshops, which are open to residents and visitors. Find out full details of all that is on offer at www.eatlocalweek.com.au Eat Local Week starts with the Zest Fest at Beechmont on Sunday June 24 and will climax with the FEAST Celebration Dinner at Aratula on Saturday June 30.

The FEAST Celebration Dinner will acknowledge the efforts, hard work and determination of the region’s farmers, particularly coming off a couple of very tough years.

Scenic Rim Mayor, Cr John Brent, says FEAST will be an event to remember, an event which provides a relaxed and enjoyable evening ‘off’ for the local community.

Eat Local Week celebrates Scenic Rim produce

Residents and visitors to the Scenic Rim can meet the people who grow their food and follow the journey it makes from paddock to plate during Eat Local Week.
Eat Local Week, will run from Sunday June 24 to Sunday July 1, and will celebrate the Scenic Rim food industry.
It will start with the Zest Fest at Beechmont on Sunday June 24 and will climax with the Feast Producer’s Dinner at Aratula on Saturday June 30.
The focus will be on local farms, food producers, restaurants and the organisations and people who play a part in making locally-grown food more accessible in the region.
The Scenic Rim is a fertile region, blessed with rich volcanic soil, which over the years has attracted some of Australia’s leading fresh food producers.
They are located around the region – on Tamborine Mountain, at Beechmont, the Lost World Valley, Beaudesert, Boonah, Kalbar and many towns in between.
Eat Local Week started last year and was born out of the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Local Living Economies program and as this is the Australian Year of the Farmer, Eat Local Week will have a particular focus on the important role farming plays in the Scenic Rim.
Mayor John Brent, whose ancestors have been involved in vegetable farming for nearly a century, says often people take their fresh food for granted and have little understanding of where it comes from or how it is produced.
He says Eat Local Week seeks to focus attention on these questions and provide some understanding and recognition of the people who grow it. (more…)
