Trail bikers race to new facility near Boonah

The Scenic Rim’s new Queensland Moto Park has enjoyed a bumper first month of operation, attracting riders from throughout south east Queensland.
SEQ Councils and the State Government invested more than $2million in the regional trail bike facility, which boasts three motocross tracks designed by international motocross stars Matt Schubring and Steve Sommerfield, a pee wee track and novice area, a freestyle motocross track and up to 40km of recreational trails.
The moto park is located close to the new Wyaralong Dam and is about a 10 minute drive from the township of Boonah.
SEQ Regional Recreational Facilities Chairman, Cr Dave Cockburn, told the company’s AGM that the eight investing Councils were very excited by the Queensland Moto Park’s first month of operation. “This has been a tremendous start and we hope Queensland Moto Park will continue to grow from strength to strength with the support of riders throughout the whole SEQ region,” he said.
Motorcycling Queensland, General Manager, Lindsay Granger said the visitor numbers for the first month at Queensland Moto Park have exceeded his expectations.
“Feedback from riders has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope to see an increase in repeat visitation, as we add new tracks and construct camping facilities over the next few months.
“It has been great to see the number of family groups visiting the park as well, proving the park appeals to all members of the trail bike community, by providing a fun and safe environment to ride,” Mr Granger said.
The facility was developed to cater for the 230,000 trail bike enthusiasts who live in SE Queensland and is the result of two years of extensive planning.
Councillor Graham Quirk said the eight contributing councils – including Scenic Rim Regional Council – were serious about dealing with the issue of illegal trail bike riding in their communities.
“We identified the lack of safe and legal places to ride as a real issue in our region and that is why councils have invested in getting this great new regional facility up and running,” he said.
“This site at Wyaralong has ideal terrain for trail bike riding and is some distance from built-up areas so noise or dust won’t be an issue.
“The site is ideally positioned within easy reach of trail bike riders not only from Brisbane but across South East Queensland.”
The Park is operated by Motorcycling Queensland and further development of the trail bike park will continue, as will the addition of further camping facilities, an amenities block, kiosk and more trails.
