New guide to Scenic Rim Wildlife

The Queensland Museum and the Scenic Rim Regional Council have just released the Wildlife of the Scenic Rim Guide.
It’s the third in a series of guides which document the region’s natural environment.
The Guide will be available for purchase for $9.95 through the Queensland Museum Explorer Shop and the Scenic Rim Visitor Information Centres at Canungra, Tamborine Mountain, Beaudesert, Rathdowney and Boonah.
The Scenic Rim is one of Queensland’s great natural treasure troves. The climate, vegetation and landscape combine to provide habitat for an extraordinary diversity of animals, including the rarest of Australia’s two lyrebirds and a small frog that cares for its offspring in a marsupial-like manner.
The high mountains, which dominate the region’s landscape, have protected the wildlife by providing havens for plants and animals dependent on the temperate conditions which once prevailed across Australia.
The guidebook introduces readers to the extraordinary wildlife of the Scenic Rim. The species selected include some that are easily seen, as well as others that are rare and secretive. It is hoped that the reader may better understand why the Scenic Rim is such an important part of Australia’s natural heritage and why it is so attractive to scientists, naturalists, birdwatchers and visitors from around the world.
