Mununjali people have creative connection

Murri Arts facilitator Bridgette Sandy says the Mununjali people’s connection with the Scenic Rim remains strong and vital to the region.
She is co-ordinating the Murri Arts showcase which is being held on September 10 and 11 at The Centre, Brisbane St Beaudesert.
She says the Mununjali people are enthusiastic about sharing their customs and their traditions with visitors. Cultural exchanges like these are essential for keeping their history with the region alive.
“We hope that some of the traditional women can come down from up in the mountains for this cultural exchange,” says Ms Sandy.
“They will share our traditional customs and beliefs which will enrich the cultural knowledge of the wider community.
“There is some great talent here in this Scenic Rim region and we will showcase that during Murri Arts @ The Centre.”
The two-day event will feature:
• Traditional Basket weaving demonstrations and workshops
• Bush Tucker Cafe featuring native Scenic Rim indigenous foods including kangaroo, quandong, lemon myrtle and lilli pilli jams and chutneys
•  Traditional yarning circle where the Mununjali elders pass down their knowledge and their stories to younger members of the community
• An Indigenous art and craft exhibition
