Trip Advisor awards for Mountain attractions

the escarpmentTwo Tamborine Mountain businesses have been recognised by Tripadvisor in their recent Awards of Excellence.
The Escarpment Retreat and Day Spa was named one of the Best by Tripadvisor, which awarded it a Certificate of Excellence, which puts the boutique hotel among the top 10 per cent performing accommodation businesses in the world.

The Escarpment Retreat was competing in the Hotel category, which pitted it against leading worldwide hotel chains.
DeliVino, the North Tamborine deli, café and bar was also awarded a Certificate of Excellence, an accolade which honours hospitality excellence and is only given to establishments which consistently achieve great traveller reviews.

The Bunyip wins Awards

The BunyipThe Bunyip Scenic Rim Resort has been voted South East Queensland’s best small hotel and among Australia’s top-three hotels for romance.
The resort, which is located on a spectacular plateau on the western side of Mt French near Boonah, was recognised at the recent Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2013.
The Traveller’s Choice Awards are the result of endorsements from millions of real travellers.
The Bunyip was voted Australia’s third-best hotel for romance in this year’s awards, beaten to the top spot by Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island.
It was also named the sixth-best small hotel in Australia and the best small hotel in South East Queensland. (more…)

Australia Day Awards

Residents and visitors are invited to the Scenic Rim’s Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony.
It’s being held on Friday January 25 at The Centre Beaudesert from 5.30pm.
The Council has received 40 nominations for the awards. Australia Day ambassador, Preston Campbell, will speak at the event.

Tourism big winner at Business Awards

Local Business was in the spotlight at the second annual Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards.
The sold-out gala event recognized the region’s leading business achievers, across a range of industries, including tourism.
The night’s main award – the Platinum Award – was won by Leona and Steve Taylor of Ketchup’s Bank Glamping.
The couple, who offer glamorous camping on a property located along the spectacular Greenhills Rd near Boonah, also won the award for Business Innovation.
Canungra café, the Bean In? won the award for Customer Service and the Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong won the Encouragement Award.
Kathryn Sowter of The Polish Place at Tamborine Mountain won the Young Business Person award, while Gary Poole of The Escarpment Retreat & Day Spa won the award for Business Person of the Year. (more…)

Mt Barney Lodge recognised at QT Awards

Congratulations to Innes and Tracey Larkin from Mt Barney Lodge for being named finalists at the recent 2012 Queensland Tourism Awards.
Mt Barney Lodge was named finalist in two categories – Tourist & Caravan Parks and the Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism.
Being a double finalist at the Queensland Tourism Awards is a wonderful achievement. Well done!

Award winners on Tamborine

Congratulations to two Tamborine Mountain food businesses, which have taken home awards recently.
Witches Chase Cheese Co. won a gold medal for its Triple Cream Brie at the Brisbane 2012 Cheese Awards.
Meanwhile The Polish Place was named Best European Restaurant in Queensland for the South East region at the 2012 Restaurant and Caterer’s Awards for Excellence. It’s the third year running The Polish Place has won the award.

Council and the Combined Regional Chambers of Commerce are inviting nominations for the second annual Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards.
The Awards are held to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of exceptional local businesses and individuals within the Scenic Rim and their contributions to the region.
Mayor John Brent said the Awards were an excellent opportunity to reward and provide recognition to local businesses in these tough economic times.
Award categories include Business Growth, Business Innovation, Business Marketing, Corporate Citizenship, Customer Service and more.

Scenic Rim wins Google eTown Award

International online search engine, Google, has named the Scenic Rim  among Australia’s top 10 e-Towns.

The new Google award recognises and ranks those communities which are outpacing the rest of the country in having its small businesses use the web to connect with customers and grow.

To provide a snapshot of this vital economic activity – estimated to be worth $70billion by 2016 – Google looked at more than 600 local government areas to analyse which communities were contributing the most to the digital economy. The Scenic Rim was named in the top five regional areas.

The top five regional areas were:

1. Byron Shire NSW

2. Meander Valley Tasmania

3. Cessnock NSW

4. Wingecarribee Shire NSW

5. Scenic Rim Regional Council area

The top metropolitan centre was Perth, followed by the City of Yarra in Victoria.  Mayor John Brent says he is pleased the Scenic Rim’s level of connectivity with the digital economy has been recognized by Google. (more…)

Boonah prepares for Arts Festival

Boonah’s arts community is preparing to stage the annual IGA Boonah Arts Festival, an eight-day event that features song, dance, performance and fashion.
The Arts Festival is presented by the Boonah & District Cultural Foundation and is produced by hundreds of volunteers and performers.

It runs from September 1 to 8 and provides the whole community with an opportunity to develop and display their skills, talents and creativity.
A number of performances, exhibitions and events are open to the public, including the very popular Calico on the Catwalk and the Youth Showcase.
