Historic Dugandan Hotel has new owners

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

The historic Dugandan Hotel at Boonah has new owners.
Terry Morris and Dean Merrell, of Sirromet Wines, recently took ownership of the 102-year-old pub.
They plan to add an outdoor dining area with seating for 100 and a cellar door and say the pub is a place of ‘real possibilities’.
“We’re planning to put tables underneath the trees at the entry to the existing car park,” Dean Merrell told the Fassifern Guardian Newspaper.
“The idea is not to ‘change the world’ but to improve on what exists. We’re not planning major structural changes. We’ll spruce it up here and there. It’s a beautiful old pub with lots of charm and we want it to stay that way.” (more…)

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

It’s been a few years in the making but the Wyaralong Dam and Mt Joyce Recreation Park will open to the public tomorrow, Friday July 1.
The Dam is an integral part of the Queensland Government’s plan to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for SEQ’s growing population. It has a total capacity of 103,000 mega litres and cost $348 million to build. Due to the wet conditions in late 2010 the dam filled and began to overtop on January 11, just 25 days after the 48-metre high dam wall was plugged. Watch a time-lapse video of the construction.
The dam has a supply area of 1230 hectares and is surrounded by a new master-planned recreation park.
The Mt Joyce Escape Recreation Park boasts world-class mountain bike trails, shoreline horse trails, bushwalks, trail runs and canoe trails. The park also features picnic facilities, playground and other amenities.

This initiative was titled the ‘Secrets of the Scenic Rim’ Famil Tour.
Each day, between 30 – 40 participants (comprising media representatives, Visitor Information Centre volunteers, local operators, and industry partners such as Brisbane Marketing and Gold Coast Tourism) boarded the famil bus and explored an area of the Scenic Rim, sampling the experiences along the way.
